Sushil Pokharel

I am Sushil Pokharel, founder of Bizbell, an independent power producer and a strategic investment firm.

As the first IHA member in Nepal, a country with great hydropower development potential of 83 GW, I am keen on promoting IHA’s mission and brand to build the capacity of our hydropower sector and push sustainable practices in my country and abroad.

I fully believe in IHA's values and have already begun the process of assessing one of my projects – the Chuwa HPP – against the Hydropower Sustainability Standard certification to demonstrate my organisation’s commitment to the San Jose Declaration.

My expertise and skills as an entrepreneur have earned me national and international recognition and awards including the Presidential Medal in 2021. I have worked closely and continue to collaborate with government and financial institutions of Nepal to promote clean energy development and would strive to integrate IHA’s policies into national regulations.

At present, I am leading five hydropower projects, working with local and international investors to achieve an installed capacity of 1000 MW by 2035 while prioritising sustainability.

With my diverse experience, I am confident that I can positively contribute to IHA’s strengthening and broadening IHA’s vision, and play a pivotal role in fundraising and advocacy.

I believe that my representation in the IHA Board can be instrumental to further strengthen the network of IHA and harness Nepal's hydropower potential, which can serve a significant portion of South Asia's 1.7 billion people.
