Membership Officer

Remuneration: £30,500 - £34,000 per annum (pro-rata) dependent on experience

Hours per week: 37.5 (Monday to Friday)

Contract: Fixed term, 6 months with possibility to extend

Location: Canary Wharf, London and hybrid (min 2 days in the office)

The International Hydropower Association (IHA) is the global voice of sustainable hydropower. It is a non-profit international membership organisation, whose mission is to deliver renewable energy systems, freshwater management and climate change solutions by advancing sustainable hydropower.  

Job description

As a Membership Officer you will play a key role in the success of our membership and business development strategies and manage the day-to-day operations. You will suggest improvements, streamline processes and have the drive and determination to deliver outstanding service to our members and partners all whilst meeting membership targets to grow the organisation. You will report to the Membership Manager and work closely with key members across the business.

Key tasks:

  • Conduct market analysis to identify opportunities and challenges in the hydropower sector or target countries, as well as identifying potential members and a means to approach them.
  • Assist Membership Manager in drafting and execution of member acquisition strategy.
  • Be point of contact for general and membership enquiries and see any leads through to a successful conclusion.
  • Prepare onboarding packages and organise induction meetings for new members.
  • Support annual membership renewals processes, ensure members complete Sustainability Disclosure Forms and finalise membership payments on time.
  • Schedule annual meetings with member CEOs.
  • Support efforts to promote membership, events, tools and products produced by IHA,
  • Assist with the co-ordination, preparation and dissemination of membership circulars, annual membership surveys, webinars, bi-annual board elections and in-person events.
  • Maintain the member contacts and leads data in the CRM platform to ensure information is up to date and compliant with GDPR.

Essential skills and attributes:

  • Degree-level education and experience in a similar or relevant professional role.
  • Excellent written communication skills and able to write engaging copy.
  • Strong verbal, organisational and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with organising and running webinars.
  • High attention to detail and work with accuracy.
  • Experience in competently using CRM software (Very Connect)
  • Strong team player but also comfortable working independently.
  • Entrepreneurial nature.
  • Ability to adapt to a busy environment, managing and prioritising tasks and competing deadlines.
  • Ability to analyse data and produce reports in Microsoft Powerpoint and Excel.

Desirable skills and attributes:

  • Experience of working in a membership organisation, association or not-for-profit.
  • Business development, sales, membership or customer service experience.
  • Knowledge of GDPR.
  • Interest in the energy sector, climate change, sustainability, international relations.
  • Additional language(s): Russian, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Chinese.
  • Possible international travel required.
