Augwind
Founded in 2012, Augwind is an energy technology company aiming to decarbonise electrical grids through its innovative AirBattery technology. Specialising in air compression, storage and controlled expansion, the company has developed a novel grid-scale energy storage technology that can discharge at full capacity for weeks at a time.
Combining the strengths of pumped storage hydropower (PSH) and compressed air energy storage, AirBattery integrates hydropower as the power component and compressed air as the energy component of the system.
The AirBattery provides sustainable hydropower in the sense that it utilises the same water pumps as PSH, but at a fraction of the water and land requirements.
