Delve Underground

Founded in 1954, Delve Underground is an employee-owned firm with 25 offices and 350 team members throughout the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Headquartered in Seattle, Washington, USA, their purpose is to help build thriving communities by delivering state-of-the-art, sustainable heavy civil infrastructure. They provide practical, cost-effective, and innovative solutions for difficult underground projects including hydropower facilities and associated structures. With an emphasis on underground infrastructure, they offer a full range of design and construction management capabilities and provide the broader heavy civil construction industry with a robust package of construction claims and dispute resolution services.

The company's first project in the 1950s was a hydropower scheme in New South Wales, Australia. Today, after seven decades of completing other major projects, they have built a reputation for technical excellence, quality, and client satisfaction. Delve Underground is committed to fostering the growth of industry-leading underground and specialised geoengineering experts within their ranks, ensuring a future of innovation and excellence in service.

Their work on hydropower projects extends beyond new tunnels, shafts, and caverns. Some of the more impactful work includes safeguarding existing underground hydropower infrastructure and improving generation capacity. They help clients evaluate the underground and geohazard risks to their hydropower assets and prioritise their efforts to address a wide variety of conditions to extend the life and optimise the performance of these vital assets.

The company is proud to be assisting Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E), one of the largest utilities in the United States, with the development of measures to address the leakage issues to increase the long-term reliability of the Helms Pumped Storage Project (PSP) facility in California and strategically sequence the implementation of measures over a series of future planned outages. They are excited to join the International Hydropower Association (IHA) to further their commitment to sustainable energy and infrastructure development. By aligning with the IHA, Delve Underground aim to collaborate with global leaders in hydropower to advance innovative solutions and best practices in the industry.
