Global Hydropower Day on 11 October 2024 will celebrate the positive impacts of sustainable hydropower on people and communities around the world.

Spearheaded by the International Hydropower Association (IHA), with support from a coalition of developers, operators, manufacturers and industry associations around the world, this day will shine a light on the power that can be harnessed with sustainable hydropower.

Hydropower is the oldest form of renewable energy and has a key role to play alongside all forms of clean energy to push the world towards a net zero future.

Various videos, case studies, stories and more will be represented throughout the day, covering what can be achieved #WithHydropower.

There will be global representation from this year's World Hydropower Outlook and a highlight on the hydropower workforce and their crucial role in keeping the lights on. Additionally, a new IHA Blue Planet prize winner will be announced during the webinars. The prize is awarded to hydropower projects that demonstrate excellence in sustainable development. Read more about the award.

How can you get involved this year?

A day in the life of hydropower

We will be featuring videos of a normal day in hydropower plants. Have you already made one? If so, we would love to share it.

Celebrating hydropower heroes

We will be producing a video from across the hydropower sector that celebrates one person from the company and their critical role that makes hydropower possible. Would you like to contribute?

This video will shine a light on the critical people within the sector that keep the lights on. Any role is welcome.

A case study or inspirational story

Please send in any stories you're proud of or what you have accomplished in the last year. We would love to publicise your work and share these with the rest of the hydropower community.

For any questions on how you can get involved please contact kiran.bose@hydropower.org
