Policy and Insights

Overview

The Policy and Insights team is the knowledge centre of IHA. We work with members and stakeholders to follow and understand trends and markets globally, informing our advocacy. We are also the recognised centre for data and statistics on the global hydropower industry, as showcased in our annual World Hydropower Outlook, where we track our industry’s progress towards net zero. We ensure that all of IHA’s positions and statements are rooted in science and evidence, so that the industry’s recommendations to policy-makers are robust and deliverable.

Policy engagement

Working groups

Where there are issues of concern to the whole industry, IHA convenes groups of member representatives to agree our positions and provide a sounding board for staff.

Policy committee

The Policy Committee is a sub-committee of the IHA Board. It ensures that positions taken are supported by the membership and publications reflect the extant evidence.

Policy frameworks

IHA organises its policy work around five themes of Energy, Water, Climate, Money and People. We aim to identify and eliminate barriers to developing sustainable hydropower so that it provides its necessary contribution to a net zero world.
