Ninth Session of the IRENA Assembly
Event description
The IRENA Assembly is the Agency’s supreme decision-making body and brings together heads of state, ministers, government officials, and representatives from the private sector, civil society and other international organisations to reaffirm the global renewable energy agenda and make concrete steps to accelerate the global energy transition.
Two ministerial roundtables will take place during the Assembly, featuring ministers and high-level participants. They will discuss the role of renewables in achieving universal energy access and the transformative impact innovation is having in the renewable energy sector.
Plenary event: ‘The Changing Role of Hydropower in the Energy Sector Transformation’
The objective of this session is to highlight the importance of adequate operation regimes for the sustainable hydropower in the global energy transformation. In this context, the session will discuss opportunities and challenges of hydropower O&M, share good practices to enhance the availability and reliability of hydropower, and elaborate solutions to enhance the hydropower sustainability by supporting the accelerated adoption of modernised and innovative operation of hydropower fleet.
The session will also cover the future role of hydropower to support the energy sector transformation, encouraging participants to be actively involved in shaping solutions and join IRENA’s work in this area.
The session will be attended by IHA's Chief Executive Richard Taylor and Senior Hydropower Analyst Bill Girling.
