PT Kayan Hydropower Nusantara announced as the primary partner for the World Hydropower Congress
IHA is happy to announce PT Kayan Hydropower Nusantara (PT KHN) as the primary partner joining us on the road to powering sustainable growth at the World Hydropower Congress this year.
Established in 2018, with a vision to be the driver of Renewable Energy Based Industrial Development (REBID) in Indonesia, PT KHN is a joint venture between PT Adaro Energy Indonesia Tbk (Adaro), PT Kayan Patria Pratama (PT KPP) and Sarawak Energy.
PT KHN supports the Indonesian Government’s target of 23% renewable energy by 2025 and 31% by 2050 by embarking on the development of the 1,375MW Mentarang Induk Hydroelectric Project (MIHEP) in Malinau Regency, North Kalimantan.
This project is also significant to the sustainable socio-economic transformation in North Kalimantan, as a catalyst for infrastructure development, utilities and economic opportunities in the surrounding area.
Once completed, MIHEP will supply green, renewable energy to Kawasan Industri Hijau Indonesia or Indonesia’s Green Industrial Park in North Kalimantan. For its significant role in Indonesia’s REBID agenda, MIHEP has been listed as a National Strategic Project (PSN) by the Government of Indonesia.
Antony Lesmana, CEO of PT KHN, welcomed the partnership:
“PT Kayan Hydropower Nusantara (PT KHN) is pleased to be part of the 2023 World Hydropower Congress organised by the International Hydropower Association. By supporting this Congress, we join the global community to advocate for renewable energy development and cleaner energy solutions.
Tapping into the immense potential of our natural resources sustainably and responsibly, PT KHN is developing our first renewable hydropower project in Malinau, North Kalimantan. Our aim is to contribute to a greener energy sector and power sustainable growth for a prosperous future for Indonesia and the global community through clean, reliable, and renewable energy solutions.
We look forward to the knowledge and insight sharing and developing policy recommendations and partnership opportunities at this global event. Together, we unite and work towards a clean energy future.”
The 2023 World Hydropower Congress will bring together experts from the hydropower sector and beyond to discuss how to turn climate ambition into climate action and economic growth. With over 1,000 decision makers, innovators, and experts from industry, government, academia, civil society and finance, the Congress will discuss the vital role sustainable hydropower must play in the clean energy transition, under the theme ‘powering sustainable growth’.
“It is a great pleasure to welcome PT KHN as our primary partner for the World Hydropower Congress. Their commitment to driving the delivery of Indonesian clean energy targets is a great example of industry and policy makers working together to deliver net-zero goals.” says Eddie Rich, IHA Chief Executive Officer.
