Areeb joined IHA’s Policy and Insights team in June 2024 as Climate Policy Manager. In this role, he advocates for sustainable hydropower development by contributing science-based, evidence-driven policy insights aimed at building climate-resilient projects with a low carbon footprint. Areeb is also responsible for managing the G-res tool, which models greenhouse gas emissions from reservoirs, and he leads efforts to deepen the understanding of emission drivers and pathways through collaborative projects with academic and industry experts.

Areeb brings a strong background in design engineering and environmental and social impact assessment (ESIA) to the team. Before joining IHA, he gained valuable experience working with leading engineering consultants on various feasibility studies and ESIA for hydropower project.

He holds an MSc in Water Resources Engineering and Management from the University of Stuttgart and a BSc in Environmental Engineering from the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Pakistan. To stay at the forefront of Integrated River Basin Management (IRBM) and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategies, Areeb has also completed various specialized training programs provided by subject matter experts.
